Basbouschka & Charisma – 6 week old Bengal kittens curled up together sleeping
Bengals are active cats, but they still do need their sleep; it took a lot of tearing around after feather teasers and rough and tumble with littermates to tire these two kittens out. Once the kittens started to slow down and show signs of needing rest, Rachael waited for them to lay down and start to go to sleep before she gently picked each kitten up and placed them one by one into a black bowl, lined with soft fabric to make it comfy. Keeping her hands firmly but gently pressed on the kittens she held them until they ‘set’ in place before she gradually eased the pressure off and then removed her hands completely to step back behind the camera to capture this timeless image of two kittens posing in a Ying and Yang pose. This image can be found in both Rachael’s books 101 Cataclysms: For the love of Cats and It’s a Zoo Out There.
The kittens were Photographed by Rachael using a combination of Natural light and a Large Elinchrom Octa Softbox on a Toyo-View 4x5 inch Camera using Polaroid Pos/Neg Black & White film.
