Mocha & Cino

Mocha & Cino – 2 year old Siberian Husky with her head resting on a 10 year old Australian Kelpies head.

When Rachael was talking to Mocha and Cino’s owner prior to the photo session, she discovered that two year old Cino and ten year old Mocha were inseparable; Cino was often looking to Mocha for guidance and the older dog proudly lead the way. With this in mind, Rachael was keen to try and capture an image of Cino resting her head on Mocha’s head to show their closeness and to portray the fact that Cino leant on Mocha for guidance. The dogs had never been asked to place their heads like this before, so Rachael and the dog’s owner, on the day of the shoot, using a lot of patience and rewards, taught the dogs to pose so Rachael could capture their bond and to also mimic the blend of Chocolate, Coffee and Milk that is used to create a Mochacino latte.

This image of Mocha & Cino was published in Rachael’s book 101 Salivations: For the Love of Dogs

Mocha & Cino were photographed by Rachael using her 4x5 inch Toyo View Camera with Portra 160 Film, against a paper backdrop, using a large Octo Elinchrom Softbox Studio Flash.

* This image is from Rachael’s earlier work, which were all photographed using a Large Format 4x5 inch Film Camera, and occasionally a 8x10 inch Polaroid Camera. Rachael used a very shallow depth of field when photographing with film cameras, this gives these images a softer more painterly quality when printed, the prints still look stunning in all sizes and make magnificent Art pieces, they just don’t appear quite as crisp as an image created on a digital camera.

Rachael recommends this image to be framed using a Black or Dark Wood Frame with or without a white border, or as a canvas with or without a Black or Dark Wood float frame surround.
