Vega – 11 week old Brown Tabby Persian asleep in a spotted vase.

Rachael hadn’t intended to capture a kitten asleep in the vase she had prepared for the shoot, but when Rachael scooped Vega up from racing around with her littermates and placed her in the vase to pose, Vega, within minutes, was sound asleep. She looked so adorable with her head resting on the edge of the vase, so much so that the image ended up being chosen by the publisher as the cover of the Kitten book. It does help that cats seem to love to curl up in tight spaces and go to sleep, and Rachael had placed the vase in an area where the sunlight was streaming in through a window (diffused with one of Rachael’s foldable diffusers) so the warmth of the vase added extra comfort, making this a very inviting spot for an afternoon kitten nap.

Vega appeared on the cover of the Australasian edition of  Rachael’s book Smitten: a Kitten’s Guide to Happiness

Vega was Photographed by Rachael using her 4x5 inch Toyo View Camera with 160 Portra Film using Natural Light.

* This image is from Rachael’s earlier work, which were all photographed using a Large Format 4x5 inch Film Camera, and occasionally an 8x10 inch Polaroid Camera. Rachael used a very shallow depth of field when photographing with film cameras, this gives these images a softer more painterly quality when printed, the prints still look stunning in all sizes and make magnificent Art pieces, they just don’t appear quite as crisp as an image created on a digital camera.

Rachael recommends this image be framed using a White, Whitewashed or Oak Frame with or without a border.
