Black Knight – 8 week old Black British Shorthair kitten perched in an oversized wine glass.
Rachael had a whole litter of adorable British Short-haired kittens to photograph on the day she captured this gorgeous image of Black Knight. It was the black paw pads and striking soft golden eyes that Rachael was keen to portray in the portrait of this black kitten; using her signature ‘black on black’ style she achieved a striking and slightly humorous portrait with this precious kitten sitting perched inside an oversized wineglass. To make the glass safe for the kitten, who even though looks like he was posing perfectly still, was actually leaping in and out after a feather teaser, Rachael taped the base of the glass to a glass table with very strong and sticky tape. Rachael used natural light to capture the image, this made it easier to avoid strong harsh white reflections from studio lights and also made it easier to view the kitten's paws pressed up against the glass. Black Knight was photographed for inclusion in Rachael’s book Smitten: A Kittens Guide to Happiness.
Black Knight was photographed by Rachael using Natural Light with her Toyo-View 4x5 Camera using Portra 160 Film.
Rachael recommends this image to be framed using a Black Frame, this image looks best full-bleed when using a Black Frame, but it can also look striking with a white border and framed with a white frame.
