Sephora & Fan Fan la Mere

A beautifully produced 1000 piece Jigsaw

Sephora & FanFan la Mere – is a study of two cats outside a quaint French home Rachael captured while creating images for her book The French Cat, one cat is perched on a window ledge peering down at the other cat sitting on the street.

For Rachael, this image portrays so much about French Life. It was the rustic charm of the house that first caught her eye, but then she came across a gem: a playful little kitten observing her from a window ledge above the front door. The owner of the house was sitting in the street, as is the custom in the South of France, so Rachael introduced herself, explained that she was photographing for her project ‘The French Cat’, and asked if she could photograph his cat. “Bien Sur” (Of Course!) he said. Sephora was his daughter’s cat but she would not mind. As Rachael was photographing, the family’s other cat, FanFan La Mere, who was hovering nearby, wandered in and positioned herself perfectly in shot.

This image was used as the cover for the New Zealand/Australian edition of Rachael’s book The French Cat, as well as featuring in the pages of the same book.

Sephora & Fan Fan la Mere were captured by Rachael using her H3 Hasselblad Digital Camera in Natural Light in the gorgeous French Village of Orgon, Provence in the South of France.
