Cleopatra – 3 month old Pug Puppy sitting in a vase full of warm milk.

With a name like Cleopatra it seemed only right that this little pug puppy should be photographed bathing in a bath of warm milk……well warm water with a dash of milk to give it the colour. Cleopatra was the sweetest and calmest pug pup Rachael has had the pleasure of photographing; at first she wasn’t sure about sitting in Rachael’s mum’s ‘fruit salad’ bowl, but once the warm milky water was added, Cleopatra settled down and relaxed, leaning on the edge of the bowl almost as if she was thoroughly enjoying the sensation of ‘bathing in milk’. Cleo’s bath only lasted 5 minutes at the most, then she was given a warm rinse off and a towel dry and was soon racing around the studio doing the usual doggy, after bath, zoomies.

Cleopatra was photographed by Rachael using her 4x5 inch Toyo View Camera with Portra 160 Film, against a paper backdrop, using a large Octo Elinchrom Softbox Studio Flash.

* This image is from Rachael’s earlier work, which were all photographed using a Large Format 4x5 inch Film Camera, and occasionally a 8x10 inch Polaroid Camera. Rachael used a very shallow depth of field when photographing with film cameras, this gives these images a softer more painterly quality when printed, the prints still look stunning in all sizes and make magnificent Art pieces, they just don’t appear quite as crisp as an image created on a digital camera.
