Henry & Pipi – Chocolate Newfoundland Dog with Parrot on the nose.
This image of Rachael’s own dog Henry is a timeless classic. Henry was Rachael’s muse, a wonderful dog that accepted any challenge Rachael put before him. Henry was in training for a month with Pipi, a Rainbow Lorikeet owned by Mark Vette, New Zealand’s Animal Phycologist and Trainer, so he could get used to the parrot climbing all over his face. To capture the image, Henry was sitting in a tub of cold water to keep him cool and was watching a biscuit held above him for his eye line, while Mark placed Pipi in position on Henry’s nose. There are other images where Pipi is hanging upside down under Henry’s muzzle and where Henry’s eyes are squinted shut as Pipi walked all over his face….Henry was such a gentle and well-behaved model.
This iconic image of Rachael’s muse Henry appeared in Rachael’s first book 101 Salivations: for the love of dogs, it was also published in Rachael’s book It’s a Zoo Out There.
Henry and Pipi were photographed in Natural Light by Rachael on her Hasselblad 500C square format camera using Kodak Tmax 100 B&W film, the original image has been sepia-toned and hand-tinted to colour the parrot and Henry’s eyes
* This image is from Rachael’s earlier work, which were all photographed using a Large Format 4x5 inch Film Camera, and occasionally an 8x10 inch Polaroid Camera. Rachael used a very shallow depth of field when photographing with film cameras, this gives these images a softer more painterly quality when printed, the prints still look stunning in all sizes and make magnificent Art pieces, they just don’t appear quite as crisp as an image created on a digital camera.
Rachael recommends this image to be framed using a Dark Wood or a White Frame, this image looks great full-bleed when using a Dark Wood Frame; this image can also look striking with a white border when framed with a White frame or a Dark Wood Frame.
Fine Art Prints are available in five different sizes; 10x12, 12x16, 16x20, 24x30 and 30x40 inches
We have a collection of beautifully crafted Wood Box frames available in 5 different colour ways to choose from for framing your Fine Art Prints: Black, White, White Wash, Grey and Dark Wood.
Fine Art Prints can be framed full bleed, or you can choose the option to have a white border around your image to separate the image from the frame. If you choose to have a border, the image size will be smaller; for example, if you choose a 10x12 inch print with a border, your final product size will be 10x12 inch but your image size will be closer to 8x10 inches.
