Pippa

Pippa – 4 year old Australian Shepherd with two different coloured eyes, wearing a hat.

Pippa has got to be one of the sweetest, well natured dogs Rachael has had the pleasure to photograph. Australian Shepherds are a gorgeous breed but Pippa was a step further, if she was a human she would have been the kind hearted, caring lady that took care of everyone, someone who always put others first and cared about their happiness. Pippa lived life with a sparkle in her eyes and a spring in her step. Pipa was often used for Film and Television work, which made capturing her portrait less challenging as she sat and looked where ever she was told; it was important for Rachael to capture the soul in her eyes and the little bubble on her tongue was just a bonus. Rachael was amazed at Pippa’s agility when after the photo session, Pippa’s owner Heather showed Rachael how Pippa could use Heather’s back as a springboard to fly higher to catch her ball. Such a beautiful, talented, character filled, lover of life.

Pippa featured in two of Rachael’s books, 101 Salivations: For the Love of Dogs and also It’s a Zoo Out There.

Pippa was photographed by Rachael using her 4x5 inch Toyo View Camera with 160 Portra Film, against a fabric backdrop, in Natural Light.

* This image is from Rachael’s earlier work, which were all photographed using a Large Format 4x5 inch Film Camera, and occasionally a 8x10 inch Polaroid Camera. Rachael used a very shallow depth of field when photographing with film cameras, this gives these images a softer more painterly quality when printed, the prints still look stunning in all sizes and make magnificent Art pieces, they just don’t appear quite as crisp as an image created on a digital camera.

Rachael recommends this image to be framed using a White, Black or Dark Wood Frame with or without a white border, or as a canvas with or without a White, Black or Dark Wood float frame surround.
